Demonstration Version

This is a simplified, but interactive version of a enviroIndex™ sustainability Rating Tool that uses indicators and weighting factors to take into account the relative impact of a range key sustainability issues.

Full versions of the enviroIndex™ Sustainability Rating Tool that are used to rate a wide range of businesses and organizations use a similar approach. However, in the full version the range of indicators is greater, and the supporting calculators, not just for energy use, but also additional ones for water consumption, waste and recycle and material production, produce more comprehensive assessments of greenhouse gas emissions. Please contact enviroIndex™ if you are interested in demonstrations of versions of the full enviroIndex™ Sustainability Rating Tool.

This demonstration is populated with demonstration data for illustrative purposes only. In using this demonstration you can chose to modify either all, or just some of the values of:

1. Indicators used to benchmark Measures (e.g., energy consumption, water consumption, waste production);

2. Indicators used to benchmark Inventories (assessment of actions, methods and facilities in place that help towards long-term sustainability).

Basic enviroIndex™ Energy Use & Greenhouse Gas Calculator

Use the Calculator to specify (if on main grid) the amount of electricity used and, if known, the energy source used by

the power station (e.g., coal, natural gas, nuclear, hydro, wind etc.). The Calculator also allows you to specify other

energy uses (e.g., by vehicles, planes, generators, boilers, heaters etc.) by type (e.g., LPG, diesel, gasoline, solar etc.)

and the units measured/supplied in (e.g., lbs, tons, kg, gallons, liters, kWh, MJ etc.).

The CO2 from the utility supply includes estimates for conversion efficiency

The burning of wood or green waste (e.g., bagasse) is typically assumed CO2 neutral (zero net emissions) as long as the CO2 produced is equal to the

amount that the plant used up from the atmosphere during its growing phase. However, in reality even if the material is harvested from a sustainable source

(ecologically suitable plants/trees re-planted to replace those consumed), currently the likelihood is that some fossil fuels (e.g., diesel or gasoline) will

have been consumed during harvesting and transportation. Equally, if the energy source is for example wind, hydro or solar, whilst the generation of energy

can be assumed CO2 neutral, construction and maintenance may well consume fossil fuels, making it overall not totally CO2 neutral.
